A Legacy of 40 Years

Our Story

  • “Aaramb” (documentary movie) was produced in 1985 by Ministry of Film Division on the request of the Society.
  • In 1987 CDS Published 2 books in National Seminars held in July and October respectively and were titled 1) “Good Citizenship: Rights, Duties and Responsibilities” in Delhi and 2) “Democracy & Citizenship in Bangalore. Dr. Fruits Bolkestien and Dr. L.M. Singhvi were the theme speakers.
  • In 1988, a Human Resource Development programme in Rural Areas was undertaken in Bharatpur. The financial aid was provided by CAPART. Also, with the help of CAPART 34 villages in Bharatpur was picked up for upgrading the skill of artisans.
  • CRTC established after the Bangalore declaration aimed to do research in various aspects of Citizenship Development, designing training and orientation, preparation of course materials, providing consultation services for citizenship education.
  • During this period the society organised over 55 seminars/orientation courseson Value Education, 5 Reginal Seminar cum Workshops for Value Education for teacher educators covering 25 States. The Society received valuable help from NCERT& SCERTs. The Resource persons participated were mostly from CBSE, KVS and NVS.
  • On 10-11 September 1993 a 2-day Seminar on VALUE BASED PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION for the Officers of Delhi Administration was organised by society in collaboration with Directorate of Training, Union Territory Civil Services, Delhi at Training Centre at DoT-UTCS. Shri R K Thakkar IAS, Chief Secretary Delhi Administration inaugurated the Seminar and Mrs. Nita Bali IAS, Secretary Administrative Reforms presided over the function.
  • In 1997-98 with the financial support from Ministry of HRD (Dept. of Education) and advisory support of NCERT, Society organised Seminars/orientation courses for Principal/Senior Faculty Members of Dist. Institute of Education and Training.
  • On 30th March 1997 the Society organised a National Seminar on Lokpal Legislation at India International Centre, New Delhi. The Seminar was inaugurated by Justice Mr. H R Khanna and addressed by Dr. Subhash C Kashyap, Dr. Surat Singh, Shri J. Veera Raghvan, Dr. Suresh Kulkarni, Shri S P Singh among others.
  • A Seminar on Value Education was organised in July 1997, in association with UNESCO and Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan at St. Columbus School New Delhi. Dr. Sethumadhava Rao, Jt. Educational Advisor, Ministry of HRD inaugurated the programme. It was addressed by Prof. B.P Khendalwal, Chairman CBSE, along with Mr. Warren L Mellor Senior of UNESCO. On 26th and 27th Dec 1997, the society organised an orientation programme on methodology, resource mobilisation, project formulation and implementation. Programme was done in association with SCERT and was directed by Rev. Fr. T.V. Kunnukal, Former Chairman of CBSE.


  • A book with title “Constitution and the Citizens” was prepared by Dr. Subhash Kashyap and Was published by the Publication Department of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on the request of the Society. The Symposium was held in collaboration with India International Centre, Rashtriya Jagriti Sansthan and Dharam Hinduja International Centre of India Research.
  • A Seminar Cum Workshop on Value Education for DIET’s of Haryana was organised on 23rd &24th March 1998 at SCERT Haryana at Gurgaon. The seminar was inaugurated by Shri Devender Singh IAS Deputy Commissioner, Gurgaon.


  • A Seminar-Cum-Workshop on Value Education for DIETs of Rajasthan were organised in 17th and 18th July 1998 at Vidya Bhawan Jaipur. Mrs Ujala Arora, Hon’ble State Minister of Sanskrit and School Education inaugurated the seminar. The Seminar was attended by Principals/Senior Faculty members of 18 DIETs.
  • The Society with The Board of Studies in Politics of University of Mumbai drafted a Syllabus of a paper entitled “Citizen Citizenship Awareness and Training in Citizenship”.
  • In 1998, CDS was commissioned by the Committee which was constituted by Ministry of HRD under the Chairmanship of Justice Shri J.S. Verma Former CJI to develop a handbook to teach Fundamental Duties to the Citizen of the country. The Handbook prepared by CDS is reported to have been appended as an annexure to the report submitted by Justice Verma Committee to Govt of India.
  • Two Seminar-Cum-Workshop on Value Education for DIETs of U.P. were organised in 26-27 March 1999 in Dehradun and 23-24th April in Lucknow. The Seminar was inaugurated by Shri Baleshwar Tyagi, Hon’ble Minister of Education U.P.
  • In 1999 CDS organised a Seminar on Environment Education at Kendriya Vidyalaya, JNU Campus, themed as “Need and Importance of Controlling Pollution- Demonstration of Air, Water Pollution Testing. Inaugurated by Shri J. Balasubramanium Director (Academics) CBSE, and addressed by Dr. M A Haque, Director, Ministry of Forest & Environment, GOI, Dr. Mrs. Vijayalakshmi, Mrs. H Bali, K.V.  Delhi Cantt. And Dr. Aditi Haldal & Ms. Manisha.
  • The Society had also organised Seminars on Consumer Education and Protection of Consumer’s Rights in Delhi with financial aid from Department of Food & Consumer Affairs of Delhi NCR.

  • On 5th May 2012 CDS organised a Seminar on “Enlightened Citizenship and Value Education in the Indian School System” in collaboration with India International Centre. Shri Shantatmanand Secretary, Ram Krishna Mission and was presided over by Dr. Subhash C Kashyap, President CDS.
  • Silver Jubilee Celebration- Year 2004-05 marked the completion of 25 years of Citizenship Development Society. Justice Shri Ranganath Mishra, Former Chief Justice of India, Shri Shivraj V. Patil, Former Home Minister of India and Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Former Chief Minister of Delhi in Silver Jubilee celebration of CDS
